Carmen Daneshmandi is a queer Spanish-Iranian photographer & visual artist who grew up in a multicultural home (shoutout Sevilla, shoutout Shiraz) doing competitive spoken word while developing an interest in photography and tagging her “Astrogirl” moniker around town. This early combination speaks to her practice today. With a love for ephemera + culture, she disrupts traditional approaches in image making with a fine-tuned sensibility of color, writing, & mixed media techniques, experimenting with the vernacular + editorial to create a textured, poetic visual language. This year she published the sixth edition of her ongoing personal self-published project, The Calendar Zine, a decolonized-calendar-meets-photo-zine that's been featured in British Journal of Photography, Vogue.com, and has raised over $1K for various initiatives including: SWOP Behind Bars, The Sameer Project, New York Immigration Coalition, and Sudan Solidarity Collective. She is currently working on personal + commissioned projects. Based in New York, often back in Spain. Available worldwide.
